Open February 16 -April 14 for Issue 2

Submission policies and Guidelines:

  • We accept both unpublished and previously published work. If your work is previously published, you must include the name of the previous place of publication in your cover letter and verify that you have the right of republication. 

  • We only accept the work of those ages 14-22.

  • While you do not have to be a United States citizen to submit or be from the United States, you do have to currently live in the United States to submit. Within your email, please include your current U.S. state or territory of residence. 

  • Each submission must be sent to our email dietwatermag@gmail.com with a subject “genre_piece name_ first and last name”

  • For written work, each piece must be written in 12 point Times New Roman.

  • All submissions must be in black ink. 

  • Files may be submitted as either pdfs, word docs, or google docs. 

  • Label each submission as Last name_First name_Genre_Title of piece

  • Format your submission as a cover letter that includes a 50-100 word third person bio. 

  • We currently only accept submissions in English. 

What work do we want?

Poetry:

You may submit up to three pieces of poetry at a time. If you submit more than one, please submit each poem in a separate attachment within your email labeled accordingly.

Prose:

Pieces cannot exceed ten pages. Submit more than two submissions in this category at a time, and submit different pieces as separate attachments (not two pieces in the same document) labeled accordingly.

Visual Art and Photography:

Submit no more than five pieces of visual art and/or five pieces of photography per submission cycle. Submissions in these categories may be considered for the issue cover.

  • Send all submissions to our email —- with the subject “genre_piece name_your name”

  • Please provide a 50-100 word bio in the body of your email. 

  • Please give us at least two months to respond to your submission. 

  • Please provide a content warning within your email if your piece deals with any especially disturbing or triggering subjects or graphic content.

  • We will not tolerate any work that promotes bigotry (racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc), plagiarizes the work of others, or includes any especially obscene language. We retain the right to automatically reject your work if it includes any of the aforementioned faults.
